Please, Sleep Soundly Amongst the Waves

Written by Alysa Wu from United World College of South East Asia (UWCSEA), Singapore You wake up in the middle of the ice,
in a bed of eggshell colored linen, of dreams
burdened with the distant sins of roaring water
by the coast, out the window.
Drive, in a pale blue van, for what feels like miles
through a Californian road without any roadsigns
without any stops or gas stations
to the home that you once had,
where you once jumped in between the waves
with your friends from school after the day ended
your navy uniform ties still knotted sloppily around your collar,
toes submerged in between the strands of waxy seaweed
and the wet sands of the ocean bed,
where the foam was cold and full of salt
and dead stars, and dead wishes,
to the place where nowadays,
yesterday, just a month ago,
you tried to drown yourself in the endless water
after standing by the beach for too long,
as the moon hung over you like the rope around your neck.
